The cover art for a music record is the quintessential appearance and selling factor for a CD. It shouldn’t be blatantly obvious but suggestive and clear enough for the eye and the mind to catch its message, an exaggerated abstraction may lead to the wrong conclusions and this is an aspect that any artist should avoid at all costs. Now, for the tenth thousand time I have made a bad judgement about a band because of the art cover, only later, for my own shame and happy self discovery (and assured possession) understood my mistake. The cover art from this cd is oddly enough nevertheless and you’ll have to watch the whole image set (a four panel digifile) and then to actually listen the record in order to understand the “enigma” behind its creation and ultimate message. Anyway take my advice; the content may be the ultimate finality in music (or art in general) but never neglect the importance from the presentation. Never ever underestimate anything related with appearence, not always the good face from a thing is the correct one. After understanding this I noticed the dimension of the work and was finally able to submit into it with joy.
What we got here is nothing short of amusement and versatility, nothing more and nothing less than one of the members from the crazy electronica-experimental-industrial-psychedelic master group Reutoff, also from Quattro Bravo Eballieros and Das reut duo, he is Mr Arnold pR. So sit back and relax, get your shoes off, lay your head down and put yourself comfortable for the forthcoming lobotomy with a smile.
This is the first incarnation from Myrrman and let’s hopes it’s not the last as this is electronica excellence from the very start to the very end in all sense of the word, a perfect combination from the best from many genres conceived with style and a definitive original approach. You’ll not have a chance to find out what the hell you are getting into, but let me tell you that this is a very slippery place created with aural malice. A few hints, “Pornosmagoria” is a ravelling excursion into dark psychedelia, industrial ramblings, EBM on steroids and hardcore porn suggestions all over the place. A run for an orgasmic nightmare! Since this is totally alien music let me use the only comparisons that could suit its insane logic at least a bit, the only band that could make it would be
Do Shaska! with all its eerie and terrific atmospheres and next will be Skinny puppy early era with its rare rhythmic sequences and darkened synth lines rounded with stabs of rhythmic noise a la Manufactura. There is a marked rhythmic incidence in the work which prevails as the discernible centre where every other enigmatic sequences and samplers gravitate; many genres join together, from Hip-hop cadences to stomping rhythmic noise beating to classic EBM velocity to jungle and even jazzy interludes. Rhythms doesn’t follow a programmed logic ever. Abrupt cuts, breaks, noisy beats and harsh textures will abound as well as rhythmic changes, in this sense the rhythmic sequence that compose the main structure from the work follows no predestined law and only lead an heretic unorthodox order, a decided worshipping on the gods of bizarre! Nevertheless things are not noisy or chaotic as they are invariably catchy and seductive but ultimately alien in nature.
The sequencers and loops used are totally exotic, ranging from classical chorus lines and orchestral cuts to field recordings from mysterious karaoke parties to raw aural scenarios filled with sexual frenzy, anal rape, underage sex and hell knows what else. It is necessary to stand out that anything derived from this thematic is not absolutely obvious neither completely discernible, more likely entirely suggested. The more defined songs pointing out this direction are “PorNOsmag”, “Son of the sun” and “Sleep is better” where voice samplers are more or less audible. Sex becomes then a tour de force where all possibilities are open. Obsessive sequences, more or less explicit samples, mesmerizing rhythms ultimately conforms the brutal aural journey that constitutes the heart from the work. After all this is “Pornosmagoria” a land of lustful flesh and psychotic landscapes.
The atmospheres and textures surrounding this universe are delirious and insane with the rhythmic background incessantly pushing up in an unnerving sexual vivacity, porno-horror if you like to give it a name, a frightening and pleasurable aural contradiction.
Textures are always underlining the digital and organic universe; this is another aspect that defines the rarity and mystery that this aural experience emanates. Well, this is a dark psychedelica rush coming from the twisted mind of a
Rusky, the arrangements are fabulous squeezing drops of sweat from the listener, the mixes are both adventurous and vanguard, they are able to blend apparent rhythmic contradictions and all these aspects finally pairing with the guess right handling of the rhythmic section that invariably leads the way in its own rarity and out of hand concept on rhythm changes and movement. As a whole the concept is totally original in form and content, even the cover artwork is awesome after finding out the trick behind it. Totally original but recommended only for the auralist that will not restrain himself from finding adventure in chaos and rhythmic possibilities in the twilight zone.
