01 Blastema
This Belgian act known as Goghal, present us an extensive defragmentation under the name “blastema”.and really, a very interesting concept relating with some in deep visions of Nico Goethal. So, Goghal, is the alter ego of Mr. Goethal and was born after a horrific accident, one dark and stormy night, Nico was leading back home on his motorcycle. The rain poured down, making it unable to drive any further. Just after parking his bike on the breakdown lane he got hit by a speeding car.Nico lost his left lower leg, his body deformed by a higher power.
His visions, obsessive feelings became a powerful sonic weapon, exploring the most in deep sensations through a reality known as Goghal.and by the fact Nico Goethal has been making music from so time ago, the musical experimentations and sounds became a palpable reality though the Goghal´s existence. Through “Blastema” we could hear almost 20 minutes of pure noise a experimental ambient, sound which has strong structures in the way as drone machines start to evolve though the pass of minutes and distorted noise begins to mutate, creating hallucinating moments, through the whole track.
Another worth point to note here is how frequencies and sounds are gather together giving a touch of total madness at some moments. Also, some glitches can be hear from time to time. This is not a monotonous release but a repetitive experimentation of sounds carving from the most surreal abstractions of Nico Goethal´s mind. Goghal is fascinated by the fact that every object, his human body can be deformed, a lump of clay, a house, a human, but also non-concrete matter or things, that are invisible to the naked eye, like sound. The only thing one needs is a powerful external force.
Without a doubt this is an interesting release because of the music itself generating astonishing madness and through the concept in general, adopting elements as malformations, as diverse deformed structures to create an album with so many elements worth to explore. The cd comes as a 3" CDr in a small DVD case with a special cover, showing us an amphibian organism as a mutation of nature. This release is limited to just to 100 copies. And reveal us just a part of the most hidden desires of this skilled Belgian artist.
