Remixes are an intriguing aspect of the electronic music, despite being just mere covers of the original songs crafted by different groups, they tend to be far more diverse then your general rock and roll cover song. This album’s layout is real eye candy to look upon. The cover art is really awesome in its atmosphere and tells a tale in itself, in fact at first glimpse I actually expected this to be a dark ambient project. Disharmony is a Slovakian duo responsible for five earlier albums and apparently some heavy remixing on the side of things. The music could be described as atmospheric dark electro and, although I haven’t heard most of the originals, most of the songs goes in the moody scale of existence. The album contains two exclusive tracks from the group itself that I must say are extremely well performed. All the rest are remixes of more or less known dark electro acts, an interesting way of releasing an album nowadays that really captivates and spreads the music of other acts combined with the groups own increase in fame.

Track number one is a remix of the song Idealism originally made by Polygon, a quite nice instrumental dark electro song with lots of sampled speeches in the beginning to set the mood. This song really has a generally nice feeling towards the beginning and some parts of it remind me of And One in bits. But our story continues and thus comes the song Mutant-X that was originally made by Grandchaos. It is a pretty much old school EBM song with some added mysterious atmospheres and a very singular voice speaking out lyrics mixed with the music. Ok, I guess, but not a track that gave me a spectacular feeling of joy or harmony, quite bland actually. Stir up the Dust is an instrumental song originally crafted by the group Anhedonia. Never heard of this project either, but the song is fantastic to say the least. Nicely mixed beats over a mysterious atmosphere creates a deep and otherworldly feeling, the melody is catchy and fits perfectly in the overall atmosphere. Moving up to Apocalypse, a song originally made by Pecadores. A basic EBM song with a few really catchy midsections, the overall feel of the song however is nothing that my mind even bothers to recognize. Track number five, and its Burzum! Finally an act I recognize, although the song is misspelled on the cover, it should be Tuistos Herz if it where to follow the spelling on Hliðskjálf. This remix is magic, great beats and sampled atmosphere fits perfectly with the originals haunting melody and mood. It is a mystery to me that not more in the dark electro scene has gotten around to remix some of Varg’s more synthesized material.

The sixth song is Alone by Empty, an overall and quite bland song that I think is a wee bit to monotonous to ever grow on you. And this leads up to lucky number seven made by Disharmony themselves. Suspection is a nice tune with lots of atmosphere and a nice rhythm that fits well with the background samplings and eerie melodies. Number eight is Barcode by Flint Glass, a pretty basic instrumental electronic ride that combines samples voices with rhythmic mechanical beats and dark atmospheres. Number nine is Immortal by Deadjump, the vocals remind me somewhat of Skinny Puppy and the melody is catchy, another track I really like on this album. Number ten is the last of Disharmonys own material, its called Nautilus but could as well be named amazing. The atmosphere is so thick you could carve it with a knife and the drums merges with the melody in a magical way. This song alone makes the album worth buying, period.

Mnemonic’s Zeit Zerstoert is more or less a very beat friendly song that would work wonders on the dance floor, the mysterious ambience combined with nice bass is great. The twelfth track is a collaboration with Sara Noxx called Earth, a very moody and atmospheric song that comes close to Nautilus in greatness. Stendeck’s Like Falling Crystals captures the essence of dark electro with its female samplings and its majestic mood that is slowly built up throughout the song. Synove Svetla originally by Tabor Radosti is a great song with its slowly pulsating atmosphere underneath the whisperings of a piano combined with distorted storytelling vocals. The last song is Kasida by Fractional, a nice electronic song with great pulse and mood, all in all a great song to end a great album.

Disharmony have really made a great number of remixes available to the public, even though I hardly knew of half the artists remixed on this album it peeked my interest and gave me a bloodlust for more. Instead of creating dull and pointless remixes of more known bands, Disharmony choose to harmonize the underground of the scene and bring up more of the creepy crawlers to the surface. This is a great album for anyone interested in dark electro with lots of mood and atmosphere. This beast for one was greatly inspired by this album and would without doubt put it among the best releases in 2008 so far.
